Heroes of The Homeless Crisis: Scott Ackerson, EVP of Prospera Housing Community Services
The “Heroes of the Homeless Crisis” series interviews and features individuals who have been at the forefront of helping to support people experiencing homeless. Because of a shortage of affordable housing options as well as rising mental health challenges, drug challenges, and a lack of social support systems, the homeless crisis in large cities in the United States has grown dramatically in recent years. (In light of the coronavirus outbreak, the homeless population has become especially more vulnerable.)
Within this article, Ackerson discusses his experiences in direct services, continuum of care coordination, clinical and programmatic oversight in helping communities of foster care youth, people experiencing homelessness, and other vulnerable communities in addressing the root causes of homelessness and what support efforts can be done now.
