Groundbreaking Held for Reconstruction of Casa de Manana Apartments
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Casa de Mañana Apartments will be demolished then rebuilt again.
A groundbreaking was held today for the reconstruction project at the Casa de Mañana Apartments. The complex is located 4702 Old Brownsville Rd near the Molina neighborhood.
The complex is 47 years old and the nonprofit that owns and runs it, Prospera Affordable Housing Communities, says time has taken its toll on the property.
The foundation has shifted and caused the property to not be up to code so all 99 units will be demolished. Once the rubble is removed, construction will begin for the replacement of the units.
A year ago, Prospera says they began relocating residents to other complexes they own around the Coastal Bend. Prospera owns and runs 12 properties in the area.
“Our focus is really on the tenants to make sure not just that they have a good quality of life, but that we are helping them to have an environment where they can raise healthy kids that grow up and move on and become contributing members of this society,” said Prospera CEO Gilbert Piette.
Piette says they are targeting December 2021 for the completion date. Building a new complex can take them up to a year, this project includes demolishing and removing rubble so the deadline was extended.
Once the units are finished, residents who were relocated can choose to move back in. Piette says Prospera will cover their moving expenses.
