Accounting Manager – AR/AP

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounts receivable and account payable functions to meet the financial obligations of the organization. The primary responsibility is to understand, provide oversight and compliance with best practices in cash management, accounts payable, and ensure organizational policies and procedures are followed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
  • Ensure timely payments of vendor invoices and expense vouchers, confirming all discounts are taken and late fees are eliminated or avoided.
  • In collaboration with Accounts Payable, monitor AP Aging to assure timely payment of invoices.
  • Review daily cash reconciliations and monitor cash balances to assist in management of daily liquidity and confirm that accounts are adequately funded.
  • Complete timely postings for month-end close process to ensure efficient transaction management, and that data is accurately transmitted to corresponding financial statements.
  • Maintain records of cash balances to include posting checks issued, deposits made and other cash transactions.
  • Manage W-9 verification and set up of new vendors and prepare vendor 1099s’ and 1096s’ annually.
  • Provide compliance oversight of P Card portal, including issuance and payments on account.
  • Partner with AP department in managing and executing biweekly payroll processes, including payroll balance, reconciliation and processing.
  • Apply policies and procedures and bring inconsistencies and problems to management’s attention.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to provide compliance-centered training and mentorship as requested by upper management.
  • Punctuality, timeliness and adherence to the specified work schedule and office hours are required. Additionally, the Treasury Manager is expected to actively perform and complete their duties on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, or as otherwise directed by the Controller (or Chief Financial Officer).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES – GENERAL PERFORMANCE:

  • Knowledge of the principles of accounting, cash management, and treasury principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with knowledge of accounting/financial reporting and financial modeling are essential.
  • Strong attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and provide potential actions.
  • Strong computer skills including Accounting/AP software (Yardi, SAP, MAS) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to learn and master industry specific computer software.
  • Must be able to manage sensitive information and maintain high confidentiality.
  • Intellectually curious with a thoughtful approach. Evidence of demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills along with a “can-do’ attitude.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively across a matrixed organization, with employees, business associates and management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

The Accounting Manager may provide supervisory oversight to Accounts Payable processors and/or Treasury processors, monitoring work for adherence to policy and achievement of goals and objectives. The Treasury Manager is expected to plan and carry out work activities with minimal supervision, anticipates issues and works independently to resolve problems that arise.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • College Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

OR

an Associates’ Degree in Business and 6 years related experience in the field.

  • Previous experience with treasury management preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop as necessary.
  • Close vision is required for this position.
  • Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
  • The mental work demands regular attendance, working well with others, verbal contact with others, noise and occasional travel by conventional means including motor vehicle and the like within Prospera’s region and other locations as required.
