Corpus Christi, Texas –

KaBOOM!, a national organization that develops, manages, and coordinates community building playgrounds, in partnership with local The Home Depot, has selected the Samuel Place Apartments as the recipient of a playground project.

Selection for a playground project requires the participation of children, parents, community volunteers, and sponsor volunteers in both the design and construction phases.  To begin, Samuel Place Apartments will host a Design Day for the playground on Friday, January 7, 2005 at 4:30 pm in the Samuel Place Community Center, 4315 Carroll Lane.  “This is a terrific opportunity for the children and parents of the Samuel Place Apartments and surrounding community to join forces in a project that will rise out of the ground before their very eyes,” said Ron Anderson, Executive Director, for the nonprofit housing group that recently purchased the apartment complex.   “There is no better way to bring neighbors together than a common goal.  This project will bring neighbors out of their homes and apartments to work hand in hand on something tangible that will have short and long term rewards for the community,” he added.

The Samuel Place Apartments is a 60 unit multi-family housing complex owned and operated by TG 110, Inc., a local nonprofit housing provider dedicated to preserving affordable and safe housing for low and moderate income families.  Additionally the nonprofit is committed to promoting strong resident communities and assisting residents to achieve economic self-sufficiency.  Affiliated nonprofit apartment complexes in the area include Casa de Mañana apartments on Old Brownsville Road and the Lexington Manor Apartments on Kostoryz just outside SPID.

Once the design phase is completed, Home Depot employees, KaBOOM! staff, and people from Samuel Place and the surrounding community will be working together to gather supplies and recruiting volunteers to build the playground.  The ‘build date’ is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2005.

The local community is encouraged and invited to participate in the project.  Please contact Cynthia Garner at Samuel Place Apartments (361)851-8031 or Jose Mascorro at (888)732-3394 for more information.
